Pokemon Gold & Silver

Pokemon Gold and Silver were released in Europe in 2001. One year later, in 2002, the pair was made a trio with the release of another: Pokemon Crystal.

The game-play was very much similar to its predecessors. It gave avid trainers a chance to train and catch 100 new Pokemon in a variety of new maps and areas. Gold and Silver retained the original way of training and catching Pokemon, but it added an internal clock, which kept details of time and date.
The games introduced the three legendary dogs - Raikou, Entei and Suicune. The dogs are able to roam around Johto freely, able to change location at anytime. However, they could be tracked with the Pokedex, after being encountered once. The dogs would retain HP loss and status ailments.

Two new Pokemon types were added, Steel and Dark. Steel types have high defence and resistance to other types. Dark types are immune to Psychic, and very strong against it. Along with the new types, new moves were added. Pokemon who knew any of these moves could not be traded to 1st generation games, and so a move deleter was added also.

With the addition of Pokemon Breeding, all Pokemon were assigned to breeding groups. When a male and female Pokemon of the same group are left in the Day-Care centre together, they may produce an egg which will hatch into a baby Pokemon.
